Camera backpack lens hood problem

The problem with fitting a digital SLR camera outfit like this into a camera backpack is, part of the outfit projects over the top of the compartments, which might expose the camera to accidental damage on a backpacking or travel expedition

The part which projects is the lens hood (see photos.)
There are several ways of resolving this problem.
Probably the most obvious solution is to place the camera outfit in the backpack with the base of the camera at the bottom of the compartment, rather than place it with the back of the camera at the bottom of the compartment.
This way, the lens and lens hood won’t project over the top of the compartments.

But it might be preferable for the back of the camera rather than the base of it to be placed at the bottom of the compartment.
The reasoning behind this is, when a backpacker is carrying a camera backpack, the back of the backpack will bounce against that person’s back.

It won’t bounce a lot, because the backpack will be strapped to the backpacker’s back.
But inevitably, it will bounce around a little.
If it’s going to bounce around - even just a little, it’s better if the impact is absorbed by a wide area of the camera, ie. by the back of the camera.
In a future post I’ll assume that most backpackers will  prefer this solution, and will take a look at the options that are available using this solution.
